What makes AI trustworthy?
We talk a lot about trustworthy AI. But trust cannot come from a label, a policy, or a statement of principles alone.
For me, AI trust can be broken down into five(5) practical elements:
T — Transparency
Can we see how and where AI is being used?
R — Responsibility
Is there clear ownership and human accountability?
U — Understanding
Do we understand its capabilities, limitations and risks?
S — Security
Are the system, data and AI lifecycle properly protected?
T — Testability
Can we test, verify and demonstrate that the controls actually work?
This last point matters.
Trust should not depend on what an organisation says about its AI.
It should increasingly depend on what it can demonstrate.
AI trust is not a claim. It is demonstrated.
